Broken Knuckle Fingerboards

since 2010 (15 years loving fingerboarding)

Take your existence seriously  --  Fingerboard for fun

In the winter of 2010, fat fingerboards was born. What? What the heck is fat fingerboards? Fat fingerboards is the few decks that were pressed between 2 techdecks using veneer from the start of Joe's interest in woodworking from 2002. It sat in a garage waiting to be turned into something else.

Why fingerboards though? That's the fault of Joe's son Sean. Sean and his friends found tech decks and as the story we've heard thousands of times, wooden fingerboards soon followed. Joe looked at one and knew his limited wood crafting abilities could make something usable if not decent. The desire to make stuff was always there and this was an outlet for that energy.

That's where fat fingerboards started. With Sean's guidance, some  titebond II wood glue, 2 teckdecks and  some cherry veneer  were pressed together with some clamps.. Printed out a logo on the laser printer at work and transfer the logo onto the deck with some acetone. Primo primero deck.

Sculpie clay molds with major curvature in the deck

Powder coated trucks

Better molds made from composite material

The first ramps

Modified trucks

All these things followed.

We then found a great manufacturer to help with our expanding business and Peoples Republic (aka P-REP) was created for that. It was separate since they were not made and completely designed by broken knuckle and were a lower cost but high quality version. We've worked with the same manufacturer to improve the P-REP line into the budget friendly product many others like to emulate, but

P-REP is different.

We created the baked bushings using <redacted> . And because of this they are nearly indestructible. They were shaped with function in mind.. The material is strong enough that it was tapered to meet the kingpin nut as perfectly possible,  no top washer is required. as long as the nut is not overtightened, they do squish out and should last a really, really long time.

Many ramps have been ripped through our table saws. Trimmed to size on the miter bench. Rounded with routers and sprayed with paint or clear coat for a lasting buttery finish.

Over the next 15 years and beyond we plan on making even more creatively efficient fingerboard products. A gigantic thank you to all the fingerboarders who brought us joy over the past 15 years. We love fingerboarding and we love you.

From Joe

I have met many great people at our shop and online, but usually like to keep to myself. Can't wait to see how we all continue to change the world through a few slivers of wood, some metal, plastic(yes urethane is a plastic) and endless creativity. Tag us on your journey. We want to see you succeed.

I still can't fingerboard well, but try often.  I love fingerboarding.
